Victory stun City in dramatic Melbourne Derby

Melbourne Victory has scored twice in the last six minutes to beat Melbourne City 2-1 in an absorbing – and controversial – derby at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

After a tense and scrappy first half, the match sprung to life after the break in front of more than 30,000 fans.

It started just after the hour-mark when Marco Rojas won a penalty for Victory, only for Dean Bouzanis to keep out Besart Berisha’s spot-kick.

City edged in front seven minutes later when Neil Kilkenny’s shot was deflected in off Alan Baro but Victory weren’t done.

Berisha made up for his penalty miss by equalising with six minutes left before Victory got the winner just three minutes later when City defender Manny Muscat turned it into his own net.

Victory v City.

There was plenty of controversy about the winning goal with the linesman flagging for offside, only to be overruled by referee Chris Beath.

The drama wasn’t done there as substitute Tim Cahill was sent off for dissent in voicing his complaints over Victory’s winning goal.

In the wake of Victory’s go-ahead goal, Cahill – who was preparing to come on as a substitute – was sent-off for something he said to the officials.
