Melbourne Victory midfielder James Troisi has warned his best is yet to come this season despite a dominant return to form and is hoping to earn a recall to the Caltex Socceroos.
Troisi has been one of the most influential players in Victory’s rise up the Hyundai A-League ladder, culminating in his man-of-the-match performance in Saturday night’s Melbourne Derby.
“I was very happy with my performance and I just want to build on that,” Troisi told reporters on Tuesday.
“We all know I copped a bad injury first game of the season, but I’ve been working hard to get fully fit.
“I’m finding my feet now, and obviously I want to do whatever I can for the team. If I’m firing on all cylinders, it’s definitely going to help the team as well.
“The most important thing is that I’m helping the team out. Setting up goals and creating chances.”
Troisi’s recent form has raised the possibility of a return to the Caltex Socceroos, where he last played a starring role in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.
“The most important thing is me performing. Ange (Caltex Socceroos head coach Ange Postecoglou)Â is here, he’s based in Melbourne. We all know he’s selecting A-League players. He has no problem with that,” he said.
“I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing on the pitch and let the rest take care of itself.
“It’s about playing consistently. The last 12 months I wasn’t able to do that. I’m fit now, I’m feeling good, I’m happy and I’m enjoying my football.”
