Victory star sets sights on silverware

Mercurial Melbourne Victory midfielder Fahid Ben Khalfallah is determined to catch Sydney FC after a vintage performance in Wednesday night’s 4-1 crushing of Central Coast Mariners.

Ben Khalfallah was involved in three of Victory’s four goals at AAMI Park in a sparkling display reminiscent of his maiden Hyundai A-League campaign, when he led Victory to the double.

“The first year we won so that’s my goal for this year,” Ben Khalfallah told Fox Sports.

“At this club we just want to win. I know I’m going to play maybe two more years or one more year and I want to enjoy it.

“We have to give (Sydney FC) a lot of credit. Their performances are outstanding.

“Since (beating) Western Sydney at home we have been playing really good football, scoring a lot of goals. We just have to think about our performance and we will see at the end of the season.”

Besart Berisha and Fahid Ben Khalfallah celebrate Victory's opener at AAMI Park.

Victory had to contend with oppressive heat and humidity in Melbourne to overcome the Mariners, but their Tunisian international favourably compared the conditions to national team assignments in Africa.

“But I’m getting older now so it’s tough,” the 34-year-old laughed.

“We played very well. To score four goals is never easy and in the end we controlled the game.

“I’m very happy about the performance tonight.”
