Victory star George says bring on the set pieces after sizzling goal

After a man of the match display for Melbourne Victory against Adelaide United, Leroy George wants more chances to dazzle with his set pieces.

George was front and centre for Victory in their much-needed 3-0 win on Saturday night at AAMI Park.

A pin-point assist for the opener then one of the goals of the season had Victory in the box seat at the break thanks to the Dutchman’s class.

“Yesterday I spoke to the guys and said we need to get the free kicks around the 18-yard box,” George told Fox Sports after the win.

“And today it happened and I scored.”

The goal was one of the best set pieces you’ll see with the dip and swerve completely bamboozling Reds keeper Paul Izzo.

The win eases the pressure on Victory, who arrived back in Melbourne after a 4-1 spanking at the hands of Shanghai SIPG in the ACL midweek.

“We played five games and we didn’t win. And we knew we had to win this game to stay in the top six,” George added.

After the win, Kevin Muscat’s men moved into fourth spot, equal on points with Adelaide but with a better goal difference.

Next week, Victory face City on Friday night at AAMI Park in a huge Melbourne Derby.
