Socceroo midfielder Oliver Bozanic has joined Melbourne Victory as a marquee player on a three-year deal, the club announced today (Thursday).
Bozanic, who is currently in camp with Ange Postecoglou’s squad in Perth, joins Melbourne Victory on a three-year deal after two seasons and 51 appearances with Luzern in the Swiss Super League.
The 26-year-old Sydney-born midfielder also won the 2011/12 Premier’s Plate and 2013 Championship with Central Coast Mariners, where he made 71 Hyundai A-League appearances over three seasons.
Bozanic, who made his senior international debut in 2013, has made seven appearances for the Socceroos including two at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, featuring against Spain and Holland in Brazil.
Victory head coach Kevin Muscat said signing Bozanic was a great fillip for the club as it prepares for its Hyundai A-League title defence in 2015/16.
“Oliver brings a wealth of experience and quality to the club, having played in England, Switzerland and in the A-League, as well representing Australia at the most recent World Cup in Brazil, so we are looking forward to what he can add to our playing group,” Muscat said.
Bozanic will join his new teammates when they return to training following Tuesday’s Westfield FFA Cup fixture, said he felt privileged to join the Hyundai A-League Champions.
“Melbourne Victory is a club that is immensely respected on and off the pitch so when the opportunity came to join the club, I accepted it without hesitation,” Bozanic said.
“I’d like to thank Kevin and Melbourne Victory Football Club for the opportunity and I look forward to repaying their faith in me in front of the incredible Victory fans.”
