Melbourne Victory have announced the re-signing of goalkeeper Matt Acton to a new one-year Hyundai A-League contract.
Upon joining the club in November last year, Acton was immediately promoted to the starting XI for Victory‘s Round 8 clash with Newcastle Jets, keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0 win.
Acton joins Lawrence Thomas as Victory’s two Hyundai A-League contracted custodians.

“We’ve been really impressed with Matt during his time at the club,” said head coach Kevin Muscat.
“He’s shown us that he has the quality to push Lawrence (Thomas) for that number one position, and competition for places is extremely important.
“With an AFC Champions League campaign added to our playing schedule next season, everyone in our squad is likely to be called upon at some point, so depth across the board is vital.
“Matt’s attitude to training and his professionalism around the club has been nothing short of exceptional, so he thoroughly deserves another contract.”
Acton, who will welcome his first child during the off-season, will return for pre-season training with the rest of the squad on July 6.
“I’m obviously really happy to be part of the club for another year,” he said.
“Since arriving, I’ve been impressed with how professional the club is and I can’t speak highly enough of Kevin (Muscat) and his coaching staff.”
