Tune in to ABC1 each Sunday at 3pm nationally for LIVE Westfield W-League action, this week featuring reigning champs Melbourne Victory hosting the star-studded Brisbane Roar in a potentially epic match-up.
Anything less than three points will surely end the semi-final aspirations of the Roar, while their opponents can put one hand on semi-final berth with a win. This will not be a match for faint-hearted.
Both teams suddenly found winning form last weekend after poor runs. The Victory bounced back from a three-match winless streak with an away win at Western Sydney Wanderers.
The Roar, meanwhile, finally returned to the winner’s circle for the first time in six matches; bringing to an end a run that is easily an unwanted club record.
Brianna Davey only returned to the Victory side last week after suffering injury in the most recent meeting between the pair, while enigmatic team-mate Lisa De Vanna will perhaps have a score to settle against her former club.
History is against the Victory who have defeated the Roar just once in 13 matches although, remarkably that one win just happened to be in last season’s Grand Final.
No doubt the Roar, with their line-up full of Westfield Matildas stars, will be harbouring their own thoughts of setting the record straight on their first return to Lakeside Stadium.
The pair met just a month ago and played out a blood-and-thunder 1-1 draw in a high-tempo, high-quality contest. A repeat of that will make for superb viewing for TV fans and local fans alike.
This season’s ABC’s Sunday afternoon broadcast games will again be hosted by Stephanie Brantz, with former Westfield Matildas and W-League star Sarah Walsh joining Peter Wilkins in commentary.
Catch all the action Live nationally at 3.00pm Sunday on ABC1, or catch up from Monday on ABC iView with a full replay each Tuesday at 3.30am.
