Melbourne Victory’s concerted effort to recruit emerging youngsters to the club for next season has gained further momentum with the signing of Wellington teenager Marco Rojas.

After weeks of speculation the Phoenix excitement-machine Rojas was heading across the Tasman, the Victory officially announced the acquisition of the 19-year-old on a two-year deal.

Rojas joins goalkeeper Tando Velaphi and former Fury midfielder Isaka Cernak as new youngsters heading to the Victory for the 2011/12 season.

“Signing a young player of Marco-s quality is a great endorsement for our club,” Victory Football Operations Manager, Gary Cole said.

“The mix of youth and experience at Melbourne Victory, along with our world-class facilities, really appealed to him.”

“He had a fantastic season for Wellington, and as a result was rewarded with a call-up to the New Zealand team for their two internationals later this month.”

While thankful to the Phoenix for giving him an opportunity in the A-League, Rojas said he was delighted to be joining the two-time A-League champions.

“It was a big decision for me and I-m really looking forward to the opportunities that will be presented at Melbourne Victory,” he said.

“I hope I can contribute to further success for the club.”

Rojas, who has been named in the New Zealand All Whites squad for upcoming friendlies with Japan and China, will join his new teammates on April 1.
