The 36 year-old will undoubtedly be best remembered for his winning goal in the 2008/09 Grand Final win over Adelaide United.
After a glittering career in the old National Soccer League, Pondeljak joined Melbourne Victory from A-League rivals, Central Coast Mariners in season four and cemented his place in history after scoring the goal that secured the club its second Championship/Premiership double.
Melbourne Victory managing director, Richard Wilson, said, “We-d like to thank Tommy for his tremendous contribution over the past four seasons and wish him well in the future.”
“Tommy was a popular figure among the playing group and very quickly stamped himself as a fan favourite with his memorable goal in the 2008/09 Grand Final in front of a packed Etihad Stadium.
“Tommy wanted to go out quietly with a minimum of fuss and we respect his wishes,” Wilson said.
