Ange Postecoglou has continued the development of his Melbourne Victory side, signing Mauritius international Jonathan Bru on a two-year deal.

Bru, who most recently played in Portugal, joins the club after a distinguished career in France-s youth ranks having represented the French at every age level between Under-17-s and Under-21-s, but never managing to win a senior cap among some of the world-s elite for Les Bleus.

The defensive midfielder has represented Mauritius- senior team on nine occasions though, scoring two goals and proving to be one of the country-s better players at the 2011 Indian Ocean Island Games where they made it to the final.

It’s no secret that Postecoglou has been looking to strengthen Victory’s midfield and said Bru’s experience was crucial.

“I made it a priority to secure an experienced, defence-minded midfielder and Jonathan looks to be the ideal fit for our squad, especially considering the array of attacking options we have.

“To have represented France at five different age levels speaks volumes about his ability, and I-m confident he will provide plenty of quality to Melbourne Victory,” Postecoglou added.

The 27 year-old Mauritian, who is due to arrive in town early July, said he-s looking forward to plying his trade in Australia, “I-m really excited to be joining Melbourne Victory, a club that has had great success and I hear their fans are amazing too, so I can-t wait.

“It was a big decision to move to the other side of the world, but Australian football is certainly on the up and the opportunity of a new challenge was too good to refuse,” he said from Portugal.
