The Mauritian international was one of Ange Postecoglou’s first signings when he took over the Victory at the start of the 2012/13 season, a campaign where the former Ligue 1 and Liga Sagres player managed 19 appearances for the club.
However, he soon became a forgotten figure at AAMI Park and did not even train with the first team for much of his time there, with his situation not improving when Kevin Muscat took over the helm.
In a statement released on Tuesday night, the Victory confirmed Bru’s departure with Muscat thanking the 28-year-old for his services.
“Melbourne Victory has come to a mutual agreement with Jonathan Bru to release the midfielder from his contract, effective immediately,” the statement said.
“Jonathan has been nothing but professional during his time at Melbourne Victory and we certainly wish him well for the future,” Muscat said, “He will be an asset to any club.'”
Bru, who played for Portuguese side Moreirense F.C. before signing with the Victory, will be on the look out for a new home with the January transfer window open.
