Melbourne Victory playmaker James Troisi says the chance to cement his place as Kevin Muscat’s first-choice number 10 is the reason behind his recent form resurgence.
Troisi started his third straight match in Victory’s comfortable 2-0 win over Newcastle Jets on Saturday and was the dominant creative force at AAMI Park.

Starting centrally ahead of Carl Valeri and Oli Bozanic, the former Atalanta man clearly relished the freedom to link up with the likes of two-goal hero Marco Rojas.
“That’s my best-suited position,” Troisi told Fox Sports.
“We’ve got some good players to play with in and around the box and I think we could have had quite a few more today.
“I had a couple of shots, obviously it wasn’t my day (in front of goal) but the most important thing is we got three points.”
Troisi’s return to fitness and form has been a major factor in Victory’s rise to second on the Hyundai A-League ladder.
After injuring his collarbone in the opening round, the AFC Asian Cup winner believes he’s now beginning to reach his best.
“I’ve worked hard to get myself back and I’m finding my fitness now,” the 28-time Caltex Socceroo said
“We’ve copped quite a few injuries which is unfortunate but we’ve reacted.”
