Victory join forces with Chinese company for ACL

Melbourne Victory has welcomed Chinese company Greenwood Capital as its front-of-shirt partner for the 2016 AFC Champions League.

Greenwood Capital’s commercial interests include property development, asset investment, venture capital, health services, food, cultural pursuits and sports.

“The AFC Champions League is the pinnacle of club football in Asia and we are thrilled to take Greenwood Capital on the journey with us in 2016,” said Melbourne Victory CEO Ian Robson.

“We have a strong ambition to achieve success in the ACL and we are proud to have Greenwood Capital displayed on the front of our playing shirt.”

Victory will compete for the fifth time in Asia’s premier club competition after winning the Premiership-Championship double in the Hyundai A-League last season.

Greenwood Capital Chairman Mr Fu said: “We are excited to partner with the A-League’s most successful club as they embark on their AFC Champions League campaign in 2016.

“We are excited to have our brand represented on the famous Victory shirt and we’re looking forward to supporting the club throughout the competition.”

In 2016, Victory will be aiming to progress through the group stage for the first time after being denied a place in the Round of 16 in its last attempt in 2014 on goal difference.

Victory will take on some of Asia’s biggest clubs in the group stage of the tournament; Shanghai SIPG from China, Japan’s Gamba Osaka and Suwon Bluewings from South Korea.

Its first game in the competition is at home to Shanghai SIPG, which is managed by decorated international coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, on Wednesday, February 24.
