Victory have endured a frustrating campaign in 2011/12, picking up five wins and drawing 10 other times in 21 starts.
But the signs were far more positive last week at AAMI Park when goals to Carlos Hernandez and then Harry Kewell saw them come from behind to shock the Mariners 2-1.
And while the task is unlikely to be any easier this week on the road to Brisbane Roar, Rojas is hoping Jim Magilton’s men can make it two wins in succession for the first time this season having drawn within two points of cross-town rivals Melbourne Heart, who are currently sixth.
“We just have to take it game by game and not get too ahead of ourselves,” Rojas said.
“It’s going to be a tough game against Brisbane, and we’re going to be here on the training park getting ready as much as we can so we can go and win the game.”
“We’ve got a bit more confidence, I guess, confidence, and passing the ball around and the movement … it’s just got a bit more fluidity to it.”
“I think everyone can see it’s getting better, and hopefully we can challenge and get back into the top six.”
After bursting onto the Hyundai A-League scene last season with the Wellington Phoenix, Rojas made the move across the Tasman to join Victory but like his new club, things haven’t exactly gone to plan in Victoria.
But while in recent weeks his form has started to turn for the better and he had one of his more consistent displays against the Mariners, the Kiwi youngster is a long way from satisfied with his own form.
“It was a little bit better (but) I still think I should be playing better than what I am and I’m going to be working hard to get back to playing the best that I can,” he added.
“I need to start producing a few more final passes and maybe getting some goals.”
“I feel that it’s (my form) getting there.”
“It hasn’t been the best of seasons for me.”
“I’ve played a few games in a row now and I’m starting to get more confident and get going.”
“Hopefully, the next few games I’ll be able to finish it with, like I said, some final passes and some goals.”
“Being able to do it week-in, week-out, and being out there on the pitch is the best way to do it.”
Rojas added that he is delighted by All White coach Ricki Herbert’s decision to re-sign through until the end of the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.
“Of course it is (good news),” Rojas said.
“It’s always good to have the same coach and continue to build on the success they had at the World Cup, and hopefully we can qualify for the next one and go from there.”
