Victory confirms Chinese offer for Leijer

Melbourne Victory FC have announced that defender Adrian Leijer has been approached to join Chinese Super League club Chongqing Lifan.

Leijer, one of the club’s inaugural signings and a former captain, has played 176 Hyundai A-League games for Melbourne Victory and was a member of the club’s Hyundai A-League Premiership-Championship winning double in 2006/07.

In principle, all parties have agreed to terms and, given the transfer window in China closes tomorrow, February 27, and Chongqing Lifan’s season-opening match for the 2015 Chinese Super League is on Sunday, March 7, Leijer has departed for China today to undertake medical testing.

As result, Leijer won’t be training this week and will also not be available for selection for Melbourne Victory’s Hyundai A-League match against Wellington Phoenix on Sunday.

Melbourne Victory will make a further statement and provide more detail when it becomes available.
