Melbourne Victory have confirmed the signing of sought-after Gold Coast United defender Adama Traore on a two-year deal.
Traore, who made 56 appearances for the troubled Gold Coast outfit, has proven to be one of the most exciting young players in the competition since moving to the Hyundai A-League ahead of the 2009/10 season.
Sydney FC were also in the race to sign the highly rated leftback, but Victory were quicker to complete the transfer of the Ivorian, with new coach Jim Magilton desperately looking to rebuild his under-fire squad.
The 22 year-old said, “I-m excited to be moving to Melbourne Victory and look forward to taking the next step in my football career.”
“I-m very grateful to everyone at Gold Coast United and have made some good friends through some tough times, but I felt this opportunity was the right move for me.”
“Melbourne Victory-s fans are the best in the country and the facilities at AAMI Park are amazing, so I can-t wait to get down there for pre-season training,” Traore added.
Victory coach, Jim Magilton, said he is eager to see the Ivorian in action.
“Adama is someone who caught my eye the very first time I saw him play.
“He-s a very quick left-sided player and while he-s a noted defender, he-s also a handful going forward and has scored some nice goals so I expect him to be a real asset to the team,“ Magilton said.
