Melbourne Victory have opened negotiations with Carlos Hernandez in an attempt to re-sign the veteran midfielder beyond this season.
Hernandez’s contract expires at the end of the current season, but Victory are trying to fend off interest from rival A-League clubs to keep the 29-year-old at the club.
Victory managing director Richard Wilson remains hopeful that the club will be able gain the signature of the Costa Rican.
“Now we’re at the end of our season, we’ve started negotiations with Carlos and his management over a new deal,” Wilson said
“Players of Carlos’ quality are difficult to find, so we’ll be working hard to re-sign him.”
Victory have already signed Gold Coast left-back Adama Traore and youngster Julius Davies as part of their rebuilding process for the 2012/2013 season.
