Victory boost goalkeeping stocks with Micah signing

Melbourne Victory have signed Westfield Matildas goalkeeper Teagan Micah for the remainder of the Westfield W-League 2019/20 Season.

Micah, who was part of the Westfield Matildas squad for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, joins the defending premiers from the UCLA Bruins in the United States’ National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).

Her signing further boosts Victory’s keeper stocks, joining the likes of Casey Dumont and Melissa Maizels as options for coach Jeff Hopkins.

“We’ve been talking to Teagan for a long time and she’ll come in and definitely add a bit of competition to our goalkeepers,” Hopkins told the club’s official website.

“It’s going to be interesting and good to see the goalkeeper sessions now.

“Obviously Casey is playing really well, and her form is really high, so I think this added competition will keep both of them on their toes.”

During her first season in the NCAA, Micah kept nine clean sheets and was named Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week three times

It’s a return to the Westfield W-League for Micah, who played for both Brisbane Roar and Western Sydney Wanderers between 2013 and 2016.

And she could add to her five Westfield W-League appearances as early as Saturday, with the 22-year-old available for the clash against Brisbane Roar at Epping Stadium on Saturday, kicking off at 10.30am (AEDT).
