Melbourne Heart boss John van ‘t Schip has called on his side to perform with greater consistency ahead of the clash against league leaders Brisbane Roar on Friday night.

While Heart claimed a hard-fought three points with a 1-0 victory against Wellington Phoenix in Morwell last weekend, van ‘t Schip was disappointed by his side-s display, and is urging his team to play with greater impetus ahead of the trip to Suncorp Stadium.

“It wasn’t our best performance and we know that,” he said.

“We want to keep the ball for longer, play with more possession. That’s something that we’re talking about working on a lot.”

“And that’s something that we have to improve on because the games are going too up and down. We have to have the ball more, control the possession more.”

After a sticky start, Heart have grown into one of the form sides of the competition, with three wins from the last four matches, and 10 points from the last five matches.

But van ‘t Schip says his team must show greater composure in defensive transition.

“We know that we have quick players up front who can decide a game in a split second. But we also want to play more controlled from the back, on the midfield,” he said.

“That’s something that didn’t work out so good, but in the discipline we did well – we worked well defensively, and at the end the three points were very important.”
