While the striker has been training for the last three weeks following his arrival from Brazil, van ‘t Schip opted against fielding him during Heart-s opening two practice matches of the season.
However, after a consistent build-up, van ‘t Schip decided the time was nigh for Maycon to make his Heart bow, and he duly impressed, displaying the first touch which prompted the Club to make him its fifth off-season signing.
“It was good to see Maycon playing his first 30 minutes. He looked sharp, he looked promising, he made some good runs and had a good shot,” van ‘t Schip said.
Following Maycon-s arrival, Heart boasts a wealth of options in attack, providing van ‘t Schip with the depth and variety necessary to improve on last season-s goal tally.
Among the players at his disposal is David Williams, who joined Maycon is taking to the field in a Heart strip for the first time during the Westpac Community Football Festival in Albury Wodonga.
Williams promises to be a vital piece in the Heart arsenal, with his pace and ferocious striking power making him a threat from anywhere in the final third of the park.
“David Williams played his first game and you could see that he-s not there yet, but he had a few good moments and a shot that hit the post,” van ‘t Schip said.
“The first half we had a few more opportunities but the second half, the goalkeeper got out a few good saves. We should have made two or three more goals.
“The goalkeeper did well. It-s good to see some things from the boys. You always get things out of a game. It-s good for their conditioning.”
