During his time with the Mariners, the 32-year-old scored 12 goals in the Isuzu UTE A-League and 13 across all competitions.
“This is a decision that was made in the interest of Urena and his family and while disappointed, the club wishes Marcos all the best in his return home,” the Mariners said.
Urena added: “I would like to thank Central Coast Mariners and all its supporters for giving my family an amazing experience in the past two seasons.
“My family is disappointed to be returning home but I must return to Costa Rica for family reasons. Again, thank you very much.”
Urena starred in 2021-22, striking up a lethal partnership with Scottish-born forward Jason Cummings as the Mariners reached the ALM Finals Series.
A 67-time Costa Rica international, he scored en route to the Australia Cup decider, which the Mariners lost to Melbourne Victory.
