United ease past Broadbeach ahead of Melbourne visit

A COMFORTABLE win in a training match against local premier league winners Broadbeach United completed Gold Coast United-s preparations ahead of Sunday-s friendly against Melbourne Victory at Owen Park (3.00pm).

Miron Bleiberg-s men eased their way to a 7-1 victory in the wet conditions with new defender Ante Rozic opening the scoring in the 6th minute with a towering header.

Young flyer Ben Halloran doubled the advantage just a minute later before James Brown made it 3-0 midway through the first period.

A Steve Broadfoot penalty pulled one back for the hosts, but on the stroke of half-time Robson-s deep cross evaded everyone, including the Broadbeach keeper, to make it 4-1.

Miron Bleiberg rang the changes at the break and the second period was only seconds old when Alex Smith added the fifth goal for Gold Coast.

United created chance after chance as they found their touch ahead of what will be a much sterner test against Melbourne on Sunday and defender Dylan McGowan finally added a sixth goal on the hour.

Golgol Mebrahtu completed the scoring five minutes from time leaving Head Coach Bleiberg pleased with what he saw.

“Credit and thanks to Broadbeach for the game tonight. It was thundery weather and they have a tough finals campaign to prepare for later this week, so for them to play tonight and approach the game the way they did is a credit to them,” he said.

“For us it was a very good run before we take on Melbourne this Sunday. The players showed the right intensity and our forward movement was good.

“With the season approaching we are closer to where we want to be and Sunday-s match will give us an even better indication of what we need to work on before our first match of the new season against Wellington.”
