Perth Glory must solve their inconsistencies if they are to become a genuine top six team in the Hyundai A-League, according to striker Adam Taggart.
Glory went from beating Melbourne Victory one week to trailing Sydney FC by three goals at half-time the next as their Finals Series hopes suffered a big blow at nib Stadium on Thursday night.
Taggart scored twice off the bench in the final 20 minutes to add respectability to the 3-2 defeat, but the comeback was left too late.
“If you want to be a competitive team in the A-League you need to do it on a more consistent basis and throughout the 90 minutes,” Taggart told Fox Sports.
“You can’t just turn it on for the last half an hour. It needs to be from start to finish.
“If you go one or two goals down you can’t just drop your heads.
“We showed glimpses but I think overall it probably wasn’t good enough for 90 minutes.”
As well as Taggart’s goals, a minor positive for Perth was the renewal of the 24-year-old’s partnership with Andy Keogh.
The pair combined for a classy one-two in the lead-up to Taggart’s stunning second to provide some encouragement for the final two rounds.
“Once we’re on the park together it becomes second nature,” the seven-time Caltex Socceroo said.
“It’s just nice to be on the park. He’s a good player to play with.
“Obviously we linked up well last year. It’s good to finally be able to do it for a little bit this year.”
