German defender Niedermeier among three players cut by Victory

Melbourne Victory have parted ways with German defender Georg Niedermeier, Spanish midfielder Raul Baena and Kiwi winger Jai Ingham, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

Big things were expected from Niedermeier when he joined the club at the start of last season from Bundesliga side SC Freiburg.

The 33-year-old played just 19 games in the 2018/19 Season, starting in all but three and scoring a vital goal in the Elimination Final win over Wellington Phoenix.

Baena arrived at Victory on a one-year loan from Granada CF in Spain and quickly established himself in Victory’s midfield.

The Spanish 30-year-old – who played 24 times for Victory in all competitions – has returned to his parent club.

Ingham, 25, first arrived at the club in 2016 and finishes his time at Victory with 67 appearances in total.

The trio joins skipper Carl Valeri (retired) and Keisuke Honda (released) to confirm their departures since the club’s disastrous 6-1 Semi Final loss against Sydney FC.

The club is also on the lookout for a new head coach to replace the departed Kevin Muscat .
