Malaysian Super League (MSL) club Kedah FA have announced on their social feeds they have signed Shane Smeltz from Sydney FC for the rest of 2016.
Smeltz, who has scored 83 goals in nine Hyundai A-League seasons, has been on Sydney’s books for the past two years but was often used as a substitute.
Kedah announced the deal on Tuesday on their social media channels, although Smeltz – who is in Malaysia – has yet to finalise the deal.
The departure of Smeltz would leave Sydney coach Graham Arnold with just four forwards in the lead-up to the 2016-17 A-League season – Alex Brosque, Matt Simon, Filip Holosko and George Blackwood.
Kedah sit fifth after 12 rounds of the 2016 MSL season – 14 points behind leaders Johur Darul Ta’zim.
