Perth Glory has signed Socceroo striker Adam Taggart from Fulham till the end of the 2017/18 Hyundai A-League season.
The 22-year old striker returns to Glory following an 18-month stint at Fulham FC in the English Championship and Dundee United in the Scottish Premier League.
Under FIFA rules, Taggart will not be eligible to play for Glory in the remainder of this current season because he has already played for two clubs in the one year.
However he can be registered with up to three clubs in the same time-frame.
Taggart emerged as the Hyundai A-League 2013/14 top goal scorer while he was at the Newcastle Jets and was awarded the golden boot for his 16 goal haul and was also named the Hyundai A-League’s ‘Young Player of the Year’.
Taggart previously played for Glory between 2010-2012.
He was included in the Socceroos squad at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and took part in the recent Olyroos campaign for Rio 2016.
“Adam is a quality player and person, who can add value to what we are trying to build at Perth Glory” said Coach Kenny Lowe.
“I’ve known ‘Taggs’ for many years and I think being at home around his family, will help re-invigorate his focus on his game” Lowe added.
Perth Glory CEO Peter Filopoulos said Taggart’s signature was part of the club’s four year strategy.
“All our decisions during the January transfer window have been consistent with our strategy to build a squad for success over the coming years” he said.
“We are excited to land the signature of Adam Taggart who has attracted interest around the globe and we have beaten several Australian and overseas clubs for his signature”.
Taggart is one of eleven (11) Western Australian born or raised players in the current Perth Glory squad.
He’s expected to join his teammates at training on Thursday morning.
His signing comes as Perth Glory FC prepares to host Hyundai A-League champions Melbourne Victory at nib Stadium this Saturday night in what is expected to attract the biggest home crowd of the season.
