The Central Coast Mariners have continued their signing spree during the January transfer window, with the club announcing the addition of former Young Socceroo Matthew Fletcher to their attacking ranks.
The 23-year-old striker has spent majority of his career in the UK with the likes of Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City, having been scouted from Curl Curl FC in Sydney.
Fletcher has signed until the end of the 2016/17 season and will be available for selection for the Mariners’ Round 16 clash against the Wanderers on Saturday night.
The Central Coast’s latest signing has been training with the club since before Christmas and joins Luis Garcia, Brad McDonald, Alastair Bray, Francesco Stella and Trent Buhagiar on the list of mid-season transfer recruits.
Hyundai A-League transfer window update
Coach Tony Walmsley lauded Wednesday’s announcment, believing Fletcher has what it takes to be a prominent goalscorer in the Hyundai A-League.
“Fletch has really impressed everyone with his approach since he’s arrived. He needed to work hard for this opportunity after time out through injury and has shown a real appetite and dedication to his craft,” Walmsley said.
“His potential excites me. He has all the makings of a top class striker and we expect him to start to fulfil that potential and be a great contributor to the Mariners future success.”
