Transfer news: Jets sign former Mariners defender

Former Central Coast Mariners defender Jake Adelson has signed with Newcastle Jets on a two-season Hyundai A-League contract.

NEED TO KNOW

• 21-year-old Adelson is a versatile right-sided player who will add depth to the Club’s first team roster in defence and attack.

• Adelson, who has featured for the Australian U20 side in the past, has spent the past month on trial with the Club.

• He featured for the Jets in a behind closed doors training match against his former team Central Coast Mariners today, and also played in local friendlies against Weston FC and Broadmeadow FC over the past fortnight.

MERRICK ON ADELSON SIGNING

“Jake is technically very good and has terrific speed,” Jets coach Ernie Merrick said.

“He plays a very attacking fullback type role which is what we need at the Jets.

“He has to learn the structure of our defence over the pre-season, and I am sure he will become a core member of the squad.”
