Transfer news: City sign former Wanderers defender

Melbourne City have today confirmed the signing of left-back Scott Jamieson on a four-year deal Hyundai A-League contract.

The 28-year-old returns to Australia after a season with Swedish side IFK Goteborg, making 13 appearances for the 18-time Allsvenskan Champions across the 2016 and 2017 seasons in the Swedish top flight.

Prior to his move overseas, the Australian forged a reputation as one of the A-League’s best full-backs, with the experienced defender having made 182 Hyundai A-League appearances for Adelaide United, Sydney FC, Perth Glory and Western Sydney Wanderers.

Jamieson represents Head Coach Warren Joyce’s first signing since the Englishman took the helm for the start of pre-season last Monday. Commenting on Jamieson, Joyce said;

“We’ve identified the need for a left-sided player who can fit our system and Scott not only possesses the right experience in this league, but also a strong determination and attitude that will complement the character of our squad,” Joyce said.

Commenting on signing with City, Jamieson said;

“Coming back from Europe to a Club that is making a mark on Australian football is a new and exciting start for me. To be able to challenge myself in this world-class environment at the Academy alongside a talented playing and coaching group, makes me motivated to perform for the Club and its fans.”
