Adelaide United have announced they’ve accepted an undisclosed fee from Austrian Bundesliga club SK Sturm Graz for midfielder Jimmy Jeggo.
Jeggo, who joined the club in 2014, made 50 appearances for the Reds, scoring four goals, and was part of United’s inaugural Westfield FFA Cup winning squad, whilst being named the 2014/15 NAB Young Footballer of the Year.
SK Sturm Graz, who are currently fourth in the Austrian Bundesliga and are three-time domestic Champions, made it to the third round of qualification of the UEFA Europa League before being knocked-out by Russian club, FC Rubin Kazan.
Jeggo said he will forever be grateful for the chance United gave him, thanking his teammates, coaches, and the Reds’ office staff for their support over the last 18 months.
“I really want to thank everyone at the club, from my teammates and coaches to everyone behind the scenes, for a great past 18-months.
“I loved my time in Adelaide and the opportunity that I now have wouldn’t have been possible without the opportunity that United gave me.
“The Reds gave me regular, first-team football and have helped take my game to the next level. For that I’ll always be grateful.
“I’ll continue to follow the club and I’ll keep a close eye on the progress being made by the boys. But I’m sure that with the quality the boys have, it’ll be a successful end to the season.”
Speaking on Jeggo’s departure, Adelaide United Head Coach, Guillermo Amor, said it was a pleasure coaching a committed footballer, like Jeggo, praising his hard work and wishing him well for his future career.
“Jimmy is a good player and a very hard worker, but what is most important is that he is a very good person away from football,” Amor said.
“He is someone that always pushes himself and he has a big future ahead of him in football.
“We wish Jimmy the best for his future in Austria and in Europe and hope he succeeds in this new journey of his.”
Jeggo will depart Adelaide immediately and will head to Austria where he will undergo a medical with SK Sturm Graz.
