Transfer coup: PS4 NPL club sign Dutch midfielder

Hyundai A-League clubs may run their eye over the Adelaide Comets next season after the South Australian PS4 NPL club signed Dutch midfielder Maarten Boddaert.

In a huge coup for the Comets and NPL football in South Australia, Boddaert has signed a one-year deal from FC Den Bosch, where he was captain last season for the club from the Dutch second tier.

Boddaert is just 27 years of age and has made almost 200 senior appearances in the Eerste Divisie.

He played five seasons with FC Den Bosch following three at hometown club RBC Roosendaal.

A player of Boddaert’s pedigree and experience could have Hyundai A-League clubs on notice if he can make a strong impression in the South Australian competition.

“For me it is a big challenge and a new step in my career,” Boddaert told the Adelaide Advertiser.

“After a good chat with coach Theo Tsiounis and research about the club, the choice was easy for me.

“With my experience I hope to do my part and bring success to the club.”

Boddaert is a versatile player, equally comfortable in midfield or defence, and is looking forward to his new footballing adventure Down Under.

And he’ll no doubt boost the club’s challenge for the 2017 Westfield FFA Cup.

The Comets finished fifth in the SA PS4 NPL last season, bowing out in the first week of the Finals Series.

They were also one win shy of qualifying for the Westfield FFA Cup, losing to MetroStars in the South Australian final.

He will arrive in Adelaide in January ahead of the club’s pre-season tour to Melbourne.
