Victory keeper set to play against Roar

Melbourne Victory goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas has declared himself fit to play in Friday’s Hyundai A-League match against Brisbane Roar.

Thomas was knocked out after a nasty head clash with Newcastle Jets’ Andrew Nabbout last Saturday.

He was taken to hospital to be assessed by medical professionals but was subsequently cleared of any serious injury.

Lawrence Thomas was taken from the field against Newcastle.

“The day we got back I came to AAMI Park with the doc, I had to tackle a few tricky questions about numbers and names,” Thomas said.

“There’s a responsibility to the team, if you declare yourself fit to play there are no excuses.

“I’m feeling really good and looking forward to Friday.”

Victory have slipped to fifth spot on the Hyundai A-League ladder after back-to-back losses to Sydney FC and Newcastle.

Thomas admits his side have struggled to maintain their level of performance this season but insists the squad is focused on bouncing back on Friday night.

“Inconsistency has been our biggest letdown this year, there’s been a lot of ups and downs,” Thomas said.

“We get to a point where we win two or three on the trot and you think ‘here we go, we’re on the move again’ and then in the last two weeks we’ve had two losses.

“We continue to work hard during the week and we need to make sure we turn up on Friday.”
