Interim Brisbane Roar boss Frans Thijssen says it’s too early to start talking about taking the post on a permanent role next season.
Thijssen has been at the helm of Roar for just over a month since the club parted ways with championship-winning boss Mike Mulvey.
While the Dutchman has been appointed until the end of the season, results have improved since he took charge with Brisbane losing just one of five matches under his stewardship.
Asked if he wanted the role full-time, Thijssen said: “I don’t look that far…we look into that in May.
“At the moment I’m just focused on getting results and I can’t complain about the group.
“The fighting spirit is great, they do a good job. I just wait and see how we can move up the table. That’s the most important thing.”
Despite picking up another valuable point on the road against Central Coast Mariners on Saturday, Thijssen was ultimately disappointed they couldn’t get the victory after dominating most of the match.
Jean Carlos Solorzano’s first goal in three years gave them a 1-0 lead at the break but they surrendered the initiative in the second half and were forced to come from behind twice to escape with a 3-3 draw.
“We gave too many chances away today so defensively it was not like we are used to,” Thijssen said.
“The last few weeks defending wasn’t a problem but we couldn’t score goals and had a couple of 1-0 wins.
“Today we scored three but gave three away and that’s a bit disappointing.”
Roar host Sydney FC at Suncorp Stadium on Tuesday before a trip to Wellington on January 4 rounds out their last match before the three-week Asian Cup break.
With the likes of Thomas Broich and Michael Theo to return from injury at that point, Thijssen says the time off will come at the perfect time for his squad and is confident we will see them best of his side in the second half of the season.
“I’m quite confident we will get more points because we have a lot of players coming back and the group will be better and stronger,” he said.
“That’s the positive thing I think in a couple of weeks’ time, after the break I think we should be going on a good run and for a lot of points.”
Socceroos midfielder Adam Sarota made his first start of the season for Roar and got through the full 90 minutes which is another bonus for Thijssen, especially with Matt McKay to head into camp with the Socceroos on Sunday.
The Brisbane boss is also hopeful the problem which saw Henrique forced off in the second half is only cramp and he will be right to face Sydney FC on Tuesday night.
