Victory relief: Positive news for Antonis after Big Blue knee injury

In a major relief, Melbourne Victory midfielder Terry Antonis has been cleared of any serious injury after he was carried from the field in Saturday night’s Big Blue against Sydney FC at the SCG.

As his Victory teammates headed to China for Wednesday night’s AFC Champions League match, Antonis returned to Melbourne on Sunday and had scans on his left knee.

“After a comprehensive review with the club’s medical team, including an MRI, there is good news as Terry has thankfully been cleared of a structural injury to the knee,” Victory’s General Manager of Football Operations, Paul Trimboli said.

“Terry is still sore but his discomfort has eased dramatically and he’ll now commence treatment and a rehabilitation program.

“We’ll carefully manage his progress but are hopeful to see him back on the park soon.”

Antonis crumpled to the SCG turf with no one around him during the second half of Victory’s 2-1 loss to the Sky Blues on Saturday night.

He was carried from the field in serious pain, with initial fears he had torn his anterior cruciate ligament.

But this positive news should lift spirits around the club just three weeks out from the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 Season Finals Series.

Victory, currently in third spot on the ladder, are at home in Round 25 of the Hyundai A-League on Sunday against the Central Coast Mariners.
