‘Telepathic’ Phoenix marquees sparkle in friendly romp

New marquee recruits from Melbourne Victory Gui Finkler and Kosta Barbarouses were in sparkling touch as Wellington Phoenix romped to a 7-1 friendly win over Miramar Rangers in a friendly last night (Tues).

In their first outings for the club, the attacking duo both netted doubles inside the opening 30 minutes as Ernie Merrick’s side brushed aside the local amateur outfit.

Barbarouses netted just eight minutes into his debut following a neat set-up from Finkler before the Brazilian doubled the advantage two minutes later from the spot after Barbarouses was brought down in the box.

The fleet-footed Kiwi teed up Finkler with a simple tap in less than 10 minutes later before Barbarouses made it 4-0 from the spot in the 27th minute.

Fullback Tom Doyle and Dutch midfielder Roly Bonevacia also got their names on the scoresheet before half-time as a ruthless Phoenix outclassed the Wellington-based outfit.
