Sydney FC is hitting its straps ahead of next week’s friendly against Everton following a comfortable 3-1 triumph over Marconi Stallions on Wednesday night.

A brace from Alex Brosque and another from Mark Bridge inside the opening 33 minutes sent the Sky Blues on their way to their third straight pre-season victory.

Marconi pegged a goal back in a lacklustre second half when Sean O’Connell fired in a penalty, but it was an experimental Sydney line-up with Vitezslav Lavicka giving a number of youngsters a go.

The reigning Hyundai A-League champion started the match in typical fashion with Shannon Cole getting forward and trying his luck from distance.

But it wasn’t until the 13th minute when Bridge and Brosque combined for the latter to slot home.

Brosque took advantage of a defensive error 15 minutes later to double the Sky Blues’ lead and minutes later Bridge put the game beyond doubt with a cracking volley.

There were few chances in the second half and Sydney was never in doubt of losing match despite conceding a spot kick in the 65th minute.

Sydney’s next pre-season match is against Tim Cahill’s Everton at ANZ Stadium on Saturday week.
