Sydney is a step closer to completing its roster for the 2009/10 A-League season with South Korean defender Sung-Hwan Byun joining the club on a two-year-deal.

The 29-year-old recently trialed with the Sky Blues and found the net with an excellent free kick in the 4-0 win over State Premier League side Manly United.

Sung-Hwan has spent the past seven years in Korea’s K-League, most recently with Jeju United, with whom he played 25 matches for in 2008.

“I was made feel very welcome by players and staff at Sydney and am excited to be given opportunity to join the team,” said Sung-Hwan.

“Sydney is strong side with many quality players and I look forward to competing for first time in (Hyundai) A-League. I believe it will be very successful season.”

Sung-Hwan is currently at home in Korea making preparations for his move to Australia and will rejoin his new team-mates next week.

Sydney will finalise its playing squad with the signing of at least one more player in the coming weeks before kicking off the new season against competition newcomers North Queensland on August 8.
