Determined Sydney FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka has refused to concede his team has reached crisis point in the wake of Monday’s 2-1 defeat to ladder leaders Adelaide United.
For the fifth time this season, the Sky Blues scored the opening goal but were unable to finish the job as former Sydney young gun Iain Ramsay stole an unlikely victory for the Reds in the 91st minute.
The loss leaves the defending Hyundai A-League champions precariously placed at the foot of the ladder, seven points adrift of the top six, having yet to taste victory in their opening nine games this season
“You can call (it a) crisis, I call it big problems for us in this moment,” Lavicka said following the heartbreaking loss.
“Me personally I am a positive thinking person. I give 100 percent support to players and try to lift them up because they work hard, they give 100 percent for team victory, 100 percent effort but didn’t win.”
“Very unlucky for us all in this moment, we all are upset but we will work again and try to turn around.”
“I think we had activity most of the game, we created the chances.”
“A few days ago I spoke here about our possibility to score more than one goal and it’s the same story again. We scored the first one but we didn’t score another one.”
Asked if his side is still capable of claiming the Hyundai A-League Premiers Plate in 2010/11, the coach replied: “We never give up (on our) goals but at this moment we have to win the first one and turn around the situation, that’s the main goal for us in this moment.”
Skipper Terry McFlynn is adamant his side can turn things around in the coming weeks.
“The boys are very positive,” McFlynn said.
“We look at the performance more than the outcome and I think the performance in the last four games has been steadily improving and tonight was one of our best performances and we created enough chances to win the game.”
“Obviously not getting results is disappointing but it would be worse if we were sitting here and we weren’t playing well and still not getting results, but we know that a win’s just around the corner.”
Meanwhile, Lavicka is hopeful marquee signing Nicky Carle (toe) will be available for Sydney’s next match against arch rivals Melbourne Victory on Saturday week at Etihad Stadium.
“It’s hard to say in this moment but Nicky’s treatment is going well,” the coach said of Carle.
“He has a medical check-in on Tuesday and if everything will be okay he’ll start preparation and be ready for the game in Melbourne after the break.”
