Caitlin Foord came off the bench to score a dramatic stoppage-time winner as Sydney FC snatched a 2-1 win over Adelaide United at Marden Sports Complex on Friday night.
Foord struck to deep into stoppage time to deny Adelaide what would have been a hard-earned point, instead extending the Sky Blues’ winning run to five matches.
Kylie Ledbrook earlier opened the scoring for the visitors in the first half, before Alex Chidiac restored parity for the Reds.
It looked set to stay that way until Foord’s late intervention, with the Westfield Matildas star ensuring her side remain safely inside the top four.
After an end-to-end start to the match, it was Sydney FC that edged in front through Kylie Ledbrook.
After a nice team move Ledbrook was on hand to produce a neat tap-in from Georgia Yeoman-Dale’s assist.
Adelaide continued their bright start with some beautiful play down the wing and were rewarded 10 minutes after the break.
Chidiac was brought down in the box by Caitlin Cooper, stepping up herself to slot the penalty and draw the Reds level.
But just when it looked like the game would end in a draw, a Westfield Matildas star found the winner for the visitors.
