Sydney FC receive ‘Key to the City’ for empowering girls to believe in their ‘limitless potential’

Ninja A-League champions Sydney FC have received the prestigious ‘Key to the City’ as they prepare for their third consecutive title defence.

The City of Sydney bestowed its highest civic honour upon the Sky Blues, recognising the team’s outstanding achievements, including their fifth consecutive A-Leagues Championship, as well as their pivotal role in advancing women’s sports.

Tuesday’s honour was inspired by a heartfelt request of two 12-year-old fans – Jennifer Nilsson-Poder and Lila Maywald, who wrote to Lord Mayor Clover Moore AO.

“This Key reflects the City of Sydney’s pride in you, not just as Champions of the game but as Champions of change, empowering women and girls to believe in their limitless potential.

“Thank you for being leaders, for inspiring the next generation, and for making history.

“It is my great privilege to bestow the Sydney FC Women with the Key to the City.”
