Sydney FC have appointed former Canterbury Bulldogs Chief Operating Officer Dirk Melton as their new CEO on Friday.
Melton, who played a leading role in turning around the off-field fortunes of the NRL club over the last three years, will officially take the reins at the Sky Blues next month.
Sydney FC will be hoping Melton is the right man to finally bring some stability to the two-time A-League champions, who have gone through five chief executives in six seasons.
“The Sydney FC board was of one mind that Dirk was the right person to take the club forward,” Sydney Vice Chairman Scott Barlow said.
“He has a strong history of working within professional sport in Australia and has a proven track record at brand building.”
Melton said he recognised the next period in the club’s future is vital to their success but is looking forward to the challenge of leading Sky Blues forward.
“The club needs to develop a sustainable position within the sports, media and entertainment landscape by ensuring that it has quality staff, systems and structures on and off the field as well as relevant products and services that meet the needs of all stakeholders,” he said.
“The task of developing the Sydney FC brand excites me and the opportunity to create an emotional connection and generate a sense of belonging with all of those men, women and children who play the game is a considerable challenge that I look forward to tackling.”
