Sydney FC fight back to earn thrilling draw with Newcastle Jets

Sydney FC twice fought back from a goal down to earn a thrilling 2-2 draw with Newcastle Jets at Allianz Stadium on Wednesday night.

In an entertaining affair, Newcastle took a shock lead inside 10 minutes with the in-form Andrew Nabbout burying a well-taken header.

But Sydney responded quickly with Serbian star Milos Ninkovic cutting a swathe through the Jets defence to level proceedings at 1-1.

Joey Champness fired the Jets ahead again on the hour mark before Bobo rescued a point for the Sky Blues just three minutes before full time.

STORY OF THE GAME

*Newcastle raced out of the blocks and took an early lead through the impressive Andrew Nabbout.

*Sydney quickly clicked into gear and equalised just five minutes later through a superb individual goal from Johnny Warren Medalist Milos Ninkovic.

*The Sky Blues almost immediately doubled their advantage with Bobo’s classy volley forcing a smart save from Glen Moss.

*Newcastle thought they had regained the lead on the half hour mark but Jason Hoffman’s strike was correctly ruled out for offside.

*Joey Champness and Nabbout both wasted clear-cut chances for the Jets before the break as the score remained 1-1 at half-time.

*Newcastle continued to take it to the league-leaders in the second half and took the lead just beyond the hour mark with Joey Champness netting a powerful strike.

*Sydney dominated the final 20 minutes as the Jets tired and grabbed a deserved equaliser three minutes from time through Bobo.

Daniel Georgievski was released down the left flank and delivered a superb cross into the area, with Nabbout rising highest to bury a powerful header past Andrew Redmayne.

1-1 Sydney FC: Milos Ninkovic, 16’

One of the great A-League goals!

Ninkovic linked up with Bobo before weaving his way through a host of Jets defenders, showing remarkable balance before calmly dinking the ball over the onrushing Glen Moss.

1-2 Newcastle Jets:  Joey Champness

Dimi Petratos fizzed in a corner with the ball squeezing its way through to Champness who smashed a thumping first-time effort into the back of the net.

2-2 Sydney FC: Bobo, 87’

Adrian Mierzejewski found space down the left flank and picked out Bobo with a superb cross with the Brazilian burying a close-range header.
