Sydney FC has extended the loan deal of Panamanian international Yairo Yau for another season, with the striker signing through to the end of the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League campaign.
Yau scored six goals for Sydney FC in the 2012/13 Hyundai A-League while on loan from Panama Club Sporting San Miguelito and will rejoin his teammates for pre-season training from Thursday morning.
“I am happy to be continuing my career with Sydney FC,” Yau said. “I like Sydney, the fans and my team mates. I am excited to be back in the Sydney FC team.”
The 23-year-old speedster will join Alessandro Del Piero, Joel Griffiths, Corey Gameiro and Joel Chianese as exciting options for coach Frank Farina at the pointy end of the Sydney FC attack.
“Yairo is young, he-s 23, he scored 6 goals in ten appearances last year so that was the key,” said Farina.
“If you ask any football manager in the world what their priority is, it would be a striker who can score goals, has pace and is comfortable on the ball and he ticks all of those boxes.
“Coming to a new country, a new football culture is always difficult and with the attributes he has, he-s very quick and can score goals, we thought he was well worth another look for another season where he won-t have any transitional period and hopefully he can improve on that goal tally.
“I-m expecting more from him, I-m expecting him to be better because he won-t need to settle in, he knows the players, the club and the league now so hopefully that will be a benefit and he-ll do even better than he did last year.”
Sydney FC starts its 2013/14 pre-season Community match schedule tomorrow night (Wednesday) with a game against NSW State League side Belmore United at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre. Kick off is at 7pm and entry is $5 for adults and free for children under the age of 16.
