Sydney FC boost as Janko sees red

Sydney FC’s Hyundai A-League campaign has been inadvertently boosted by the sending off of striker Marc Janko while captaining Austria in Euro 2016 qualifiers.

Janko scored winning goal with a towering header as the Austrian’s won 2-1 in Moldova before being sent off in the 83rd minute after an altercation with opposition goalkeeper Illie Cebanu.

The 31-year-old is likely to be suspended for at least one international match with a three game ban usually handed out for violent conduct incidents.

Austria have Euro qualifiers scheduled on October 13, November 16 and March 28 meaning a potential three game suspension to Janko could free him up for Sydney’s entire Hyundai A-League campaign.
