Perth Glory defender Alexandra Nilsson has been named the Most Glorious Women’s Player
The Swedish international enjoyed a breakthrough debut season in the heart of defence and was also voted by her teammates as the ME Bank Player’s Player of the Year.
24-year-old Nilsson says winning both awards was a tremendous honour.
“I have to thank everybody involved in the team to help me do this,” she said.
“Good players, good coach, good staff – everybody has been fantastic and I’ve loved being in Perth.
“Now I will head back to Sweden, but I have no regrets from my time in Perth and maybe I’ll be back again next season, but we will see.”
Coach John Gibson says Nilsson was the standout player for his side this season.
“Alexandra was a consistent performer over the course of the season and a fabulous acquisition to the group this year,” he said.
“She (Nilsson) is very professional and coachable – a quality person who has been an absolute delight to have with Perth Glory.
“Alexandra was recruited and recommended via Kate Gill, who played with her in Sweden at Sunnana SK several years back and there is no doubt that she is a deserved winner of the Most Glorious Player award.
“Her plan is to now head back to Sweden and push for national team selection for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany later this year.”
The APB Modular Golden Boot was shared by Westfield Matildas strikers Kate Gill and Sam Kerr after they scored three goals apiece in season 2010/11.
