Tune in for an A-League triple-header on Sunday, April 18 as six teams head into battle to conclude the action of Matchweek 17.
Sydney FC host Adelaide United at Leichhardt Oval (kick-off 4.05pm AEST) in the first of Sunday’s three fixtures. The Sky Blues lost 1-0 to Adelaide in Matchweek 14 – the only loss Steve Corica’s side has been dealt in their past eight games.
Reds ‘keeper Joe Gauci was outstanding in goal for the Reds on the day, producing an amazing save at the death to keep his first and only clean sheet in his burgeoning A-League career.
Louis D’Arrigo returns from suspensions for the Reds. His side last featured in a 3-1 home win over Macarthur FC – a result which helped Adelaide to climb into second spot at the end of Matchweek 16. With eight wins from their last ten games, Carl Veart’s in-form side will be looking to extend their gap on the table over Sydney to six points, whilst the Sky Blues gun for the three points needed to go above the Reds on goal difference alone.
Newcastle Jets travel to face Macarthur FC at Campbelltown Stadium in Sunday’s second A-League matchup. The Bulls’ season hit a hitch in Matchweek 16 – Ante Milicic’s side lost to both Brisbane Roar and Adelaide to slip out of the top four by the end of the Matchweek.
The Jets put an end to a seven-game losing streak by drawing 1-1 with Perth Glory last time out. It was Newcastle’s second game of the Matchweek after bottom-placed Melbourne Victory came from behind to beat the Novocastrians 2-1 at McDonald Jones Stadium.
Steven Ugarkovic returns to the Jets squad for the first time since late March after recovering from a back injury, while Aleksandar Jovanovic misses out for the Bulls after sustaining a calf injury against the Reds.
Perth Glory play host to Wellington Phoenix at HBF Park to round out Matchweek 17 (kick-off 8.15pm AEST).
Diego Castro returns to the Glory squad for the clash between tenth and ninth on the table, however coach Richard Garcia labelled his captain “touch and go” ahead of the Phoenix clash.
Wellington beat Western United 3-2 in their last outing, ending a two-game losing streak and jumping above Perth on the table, relegating their Sunday-night rivals to tenth place.
These two sides last met in Matchweek 11 in the first of three Distance Derbies in 2020/21. Phoenix won 3-0 on that occasion – Perth took 21 shots to Wellington’s eight, but fell to a three goal defeat at WIN Stadium.
There’s three games to play on Sunday, April 18. Read on for information regarding how to watch, and all the latest team news.
