Sturridge headlines Glory exits as ex-Liverpool star says goodbye

Perth Glory and former Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge have parted ways after one season in the Isuzu UTE A-League.

Sturridge arrived in Perth amid much fanfare and expectation following his exploits in the Premier League with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.

However, Sturridge was limited to just six A-League Men appearances without scoring a goal, though he made only one start in 139 minutes of action as injuries and COVID-19 plagued the ex-England international.

Sturridge headlines Perth’s departures, with Nick Fitzgerald, Osama Malik, Josh Rawlins, Darko Stanojevic and jonathan Aspropotamitis also farewelling the Glory at the expiration of their contracts.

Perth’s all-time leading goalscorer and appearances holder Andy Keogh retired but has taken up the position of head of recruitment as the Glory rebuild after finishing bottom of the table in 2021-22.

“On behalf of Perth Glory, I would like to thank all the players who are departing for the contribution they have made to the club and wish them all the very best for the future,” said CEO Tony Pignata.

Ruben Zadkovich was appointed head coach on a two-year deal on Thursday after he oversaw 10 games as interim boss last term.
