The new Joint A-League Strategic Committee (JALSC) met for the first time in Sydney today, marking a new era of collaboration between clubs and the governing body.
The JALSC comprises FFA directors Brian Schwartz (chairman), Joseph Healy and Phill Wolanski alongside Hyundai A-League club representatives Tony Sage (Perth Glory), Peter Sidwell (Melbourne Heart) and Greg Griffin (Adelaide United).
FFA CEO Ben Buckley participated in the JALSC meeting along with FFA senior management.
The meeting addressed a range of key issues and recommendations relating to the strategic direction and operation of the Hyundai A-League.
Topics addressed included incentives for finals series participation, revamping the finals series format, next season-s 10-team competition structure incorporating the New Sydney Club representing western Sydney, community engagement and various membership, sponsorship and other growth initiatives.
FFA CEO Ben Buckley said the establishment of JALSC was another important step in FFA-s strategic plan for building a sustainable A-League.
“Today-s meeting was held in a spirit of co-operation with a clear understanding that working together will bring benefits to all parties,” said Mr Buckley.
“The clubs will have a direct say in the strategy and policy direction of the Hyundai A-League, but the sharing of insights and ideas will be just as important.”
Perth Glory chairman Tony Sage said today-s JALSC meeting was a positive start to a new process.
“As owners and investors in the A-League it-s important we have a say and are working with the FFA in finding solutions together to our critical challenges,” said Mr Sage.
Melbourne Heart chairman Peter Sidwell welcomed the establishment of the committee. “The committee-s establishment is very timely and provides the platform for us to work collaboratively and with confidence in the future. The news today confirming the continued participation of the Newcastle Jets under the ownership of Nathan Tinkler-s Hunter Sports Group is also very welcome”.
The JALSC will next meet in June.
