Stats analysis: Wellington’s drought-breaking win

Wellington Phoenix will be breathing a sigh of relief following a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Melbourne Victory on Wednesday night.

The victory was Wellington’s second of the season and ended a seven-match winless run in the Hyundai A-League for Darije Kalezic’s side.

In fact, the Phoenix also went seven matches without a victory prior to their last win in November (5-2 win over Perth Glory).

Check out some of the other key stats and facts from Phoenix’s drought-breaking triumph.

  • Only Central Coast Mariners have been shown more red cards (5) than Melbourne Victory (3) this season; Kevin Muscat’s side have taken just one point from a possible nine in games they have been reduced to 10 men (D1 L2).
  • The last 21 A-League matches between these sides have produced a positive result (Wellington W7 L14).
  • Roy Krishna has scored goals in consecutive appearances for the first time since March 2017.
