Apostolos Stamatelopoulos scored a double as Western United beat Preston Lions 5-0 in the club’s second pre-season friendly on Thursday night.
The 20-year-old striker, who pledged his future to the Hyundai A-League newcomers in March, hit two goals in the space of five minutes after entering the field on the hour mark.
Valentino Yuel had opened accounts for Mark Rudan’s side by turning in a superb cross from Alessandro Diamanti just after half time.

Former Bentleigh Greens attacker Yuel also scored the club’s first ever goal in their inaugural match against Caroline Springs George Cross last Thursday.
Josh Cavallo etched his name on the scoresheet with a tidy finish, while Dylan Pierias secured his second strike in the colours of Western United late on.

Italian international Diamanti wore the armband for Rudan, despite Ersan Gulum – who captained the club in their inaugural match last week – starting at the City Vista Pavilion and Sports Field.
